STAFF BIO FOR TINA
Name: Tina Kay Hageman (Block)
Position at the Calmar Courier:
Owner and Editor
Education: 1995 grad of Sumner Jr./ Sr. High School and attended Ellsworth Community College my freshman year and some continued education at NICC.
Family: My parents are Dennis and Rheta Block of Sumner, Don and Sharon Ingalls of New Albin; my two brothers are Randy (Linda) Block of Tripoli and Dan (Vicky) Block of Sumner; plus six step-siblings and their families. Mark and I have been married eight years and we have three children: Dylan (6), Megan (4), and Britney (1).
My in-laws are Lester and the late Lois Hageman and my favorite brother-in-law is Steve.
Tell us about your home: We live in the country between Calmar and Fort Atkinson on a 40-cow dairy farm and have beef animals. We have a small garden plus a large raspberry patch and apple trees and it is the home where my husband grew up. In 2010 we are taking on more farmland so our little Hageman ranch will be running approximately 950 acres of land.
Hobbies & likes: Photography, playing with the kids, scrapbooking, working, fishing and helping Mark outside, cooking and baking pies. Also I like trying to teach the kids how to cook and let them roll out their own pie crust.
Dislikes: Cleaning up the kitchen after the children roll out their own pie crust, worst fear ever is public speaking! And heights and small spaces.
Do you work anywhere else in addition to the newspaper:
The kids and I help out on the farm when we can. In addition, at the newspaper office, I've gone into a lot of custom design and graphics work and photography. There is a studio next door where I take in-door photos.
What are your greatest accomplishments:
Happiness and finding my faith coupled with my husband and our children. Followed closely by owning this business at age 28, filleting fish, operating the skidloader and all-natural childbirth.
What do you enjoy about your career at the newspaper:
I love trying new things, learning something new everyday, meeting new people, gaining some strong and valuable relationships, and making people happy.
What career path would you choose NOT to take:
Politics and proctology
Lastly...what’s on your iPod?
Christian bands, country, 80’s rock, pop, rap, some metal for when I go running, and the latest tuned from New Kids on the Block. =)
