About Us

Official Paper of Calmar, Fort Atkinson, Waucoma, Winneshiek County and Turkey Valley Community Schools.

Located amidst the bluffs of northeastern Iowa, the city and the newspaper alike trace their name to the Kalmar Sound on the southeastern coast of Sweden. The region draws upon a heritage of Scandinavian, German and Czech settlers. Owing first to the influence of the railroad, and later to the confluence of major highways in the area, the area is a hub for travel.

The Calmar Courier is part of the family of publications printed by Mid-America Publishing Corporation based in Hampton.

The Calmar Courier is joined by sister MAP newspapers with the Postville Herald and The Outlook in Monona, offering advertising potential to our customers as well as the possibility of expanded news coverage.

Mid-America Publishing Corporation started in 1962.
