Don Stouse

Don C. Stouse, of Perham, Minnesota, died April 2, 2024, in Wadena, Minnesota at the age of 86. He was born May 7, 1937 in Dubuque to Hugh and Alexis (Kaiser) Stouse.  

Don attended Loras Academy, Dubuque, and graduated from Loras College in 1958 and from the University of Iowa in 1960 with a Sanitary Engineer bachelor’s degree. He served with the U.S. Public Health Service and the U.S. Air Force.

Don married Mary Delrose Gerken Sept. 12, 1964.  They owned a successful consulting engineering firm at Sherrill. Don was registered in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Nebraska. Don and Mary Del farmed and raised angus cattle at Sherill, as well.

In 1974, Don and Mary Del moved their family to Rose Lake near Vergas, Minnesota, where they had a small grain farm and managed rental properties. 

Don and Mary Del retired in 1994 and moved to Spillville. He enjoyed fishing and stamp collecting during his retirement.

In 2021, Don and Mary Del returned to Minnesota and resided in Perham to be close to family.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Alexis Stouse; and in-laws, Oscar and Martha Gerken. 

He is survived by his wife, Mary Del; three daughters, Ann Baron (Dave Kyro), Jean Santjer (Bob), Marie Ashland (Kurt); grandchildren, Nick Baron, Joe Baron (Nicole), Amanda Klassen (Dan), Emily Santjer, and Matt Ashland (Mathia). He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Darlene Gerken; and many nieces and nephews.

A Private Family Burial will be held at the Vergas City Cemetery at a later date.
